Respira Feliz – Community Wellness Program

As part of the Community Wellness initiative, we are offering Health and Wellness workshops: Respira Feliz, which consists of targeted Breathing exercises and Mindfulness techniques for the Latino Community of San Diego. These courses are offered in Spanish and on a donation basis. The aim of our programs is to provide tools and techniques that help individuals and families to live a Healthy, Stress-free, Violence-free life through prevention and wellness.

Respira Feliz is a program of the International Association for Human Values, a humanitarian, educational non-profit foundation.

It is always good to prevent illness and violence with health and wellness programs, but given current economic conditions and widespread uncertainty, these courses will greatly benefit the Latino community in the San Diego area.

On June 1-3, we had our first Respira Feliz, and it was a resounding success. For the next course, which takes place on June 6-8 at the Sherman Heights Community Center, we would like to expand and build on this success. The center is located at 2258 Island Avenue, in the Logan Heights area. All three days are compulsory and timings are, Wednesday 9am- 1pm, Thurs and Fri 9am to 2pm. Participants are advised to arrive at 8:30am to register for the course on Wednesday.

The New Children’s Museum and the Anti-Defamation League Present Diversity Day

The New Children’s Museum and the Anti-Defamation League invite children and families to celebrate our differences at Diversity Day on Sunday June 10, from 10AM–4PM. Offering free admission, the community is encouraged to celebrate the region’s diversity, including the many races, religions, national origins, and sexual orientations that thrive and contribute to San Diego.

Last year’s inaugural Diversity Day drew over 1,260 visitors. This year, guests will be encouraged to “Look Again” at the current exhibition, TRASH. Special hands-on art making activities and festive cultural entertainment will be featured throughout the day. Visitors will be able to share their creative talent in a collaborative art project that will be exhibited at the San Diego International Airport. The performance-packed day will feature entertainment by a steel drum band; Native American, Philippine, Hawaiian, Brazilian dance troupes and much more. A complete schedule can be found at www.thinkplaycreate.org/calendar.

TRASH features the work of 12 artists from around the globe focused on the kid-friendly and timely topic of waste and environmental conservation. Through inventive artworks, the exhibition invites families to explore new perspectives and help shape the future.

“We are thrilled to build on the success of last year’s event by continuing to partner with The New Children’s Museum,” states Anti-Defamation League San Diego regional director Tammy Gillies. “The event truly supports our mission to build bridges across diverse cultures and combating all forms of prejudice and bigotry.”
