Art Exhibit Pays Homage to US Labor Force

Los Rosarios de Doña Rosa Rios, will open at Casa Familiar’s THE FRONT: A Collaborative of Art, Culture, Design and Urbanism, this coming Friday October 8th 2010 from 6pm to 9pm.

The artist, Roberto Salas is known throughout for his public art installations. The exhibition will consist of large-scale rosaries, or prayer beads, commonly used in prayer in various religions. Salas is using the idea of a rosary, and replacing the beads with tools of the trade, creating an amazing and thought provoking display.

The exhibition will run from October 8 – October 29, 2010. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30am  – 5pm.

San Diego Public Library Screens 1960s Cult Classic Carnival of Souls in Honor of Halloween

Haunted by Ghoulish Visions, a Young Woman is Drawn to an Abandoned Carnival

The San Diego Public Library will screen the film Carnival of Souls on Wednesday, October 13th, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. in the 3rd floor auditorium of the Central Library, located at 820 E Street in downtown San Diego. This screening marks an inaugural Halloween presentation at the Central Library featuring classic and seminal horror films drawn from internationally recognized masters of the genre. This event is FREE to the public.

A drag race turns to tragedy when one car, with three young women inside, topples over a bridge and into the muddy river below. The authorities drag the river, but the search is fruitless and the girls are presumed dead until a single survivor stumbles out of the water with no recollection of how she escaped. Mary Henry, the lone survivor, decides to forget her strange experience and carry on with her plan to move to Utah to accept a job as a church organist. Rejecting her obligation to worship as part of the congregation, her cold approach to her work unnerves many around her.

Mary begins experiencing weird visions of a ghoulish man and finds herself strangely drawn to an abandoned carnival outside of town. Soon the ghostly apparition is appearing more often, and she experiences eerie spells in which she becomes invisible to people on the street. Eventually Mary realizes that the deserted carnival holds the secret to her destiny.
