World Premiere of the Groundbreaking Latino Boxing Film “Beyond the Ropes”

   The San Diego Latino Film Festival 2011 will host the World Premiere of the dramatic Latino boxing short film “Beyond the Ropes” on March 13, 2011. Directed by the California State University – Los Angeles graduate, Johnny Kirk; the film mixes a cast of veteran and up and coming talent.

   “Beyond the Ropes” explores the relationship between individual success and family. Olympic Boxing hopeful Stewart Flores plays Jesse Guerrero, a young, troubled boxer that seeks the desperately needed approval of his father, whose attention is solely focused on the boxing career of Jesse’s brother.

   Grammy win of “Album of the Year” by Indie band Arcade Fire was just another reminder that the face of popular music is ever-changing, and the days when Indie music had to fight to be taken seriously are long gone.

   You can expose yourself to scores of new Indies and try your hand at predicting who will be the next history makers.

   IndieFest 7 will take place March 12 & 13, 2011 at our brand new location – NTC Promenade at Liberty Station. With fields of grass, trees and a gorgeous view of the bay, festival patrons can now stretch out as they enjoy over 100 acts on our Five Stages, including: We Are Scientists, AWOLNATION, James Marsters and Ghost of The Robot, Vokab Kompany, Danielle LoPresti & The Masses, Monette Marino Keita, Vanaprasta, Audible Mainframe, Black Party Politics, Capoeira Brasil San Diego and tons more.    Also featured will be:

   ~Live art classes for kids and adults, FREE with your IndieFest wristband, sponsored by the Expressive Arts Institute and The San Diego Watercolor Society,

   Saturday, March 12 is the big day. All Five IndieFest stages start at 12 noon, offering a brilliantly diverse menu of music, film and art to feast upon all day long: Rock, Pop, Folk, Latin, Hip Hop, House, World, Country, Avant-Garde, Funk, Punk, Blues, Jazz, Electronica, Spoken Word and FILM!

   Sunday, March 13 the Mental Eclectic Indie Film Stage continues for a second day of films, features, Q&A and Awards.

   IndieFest is dedicated to affirming the power of transformation that comes out of recognizing the independent spirit that drives the creative process.
