Inform Your Vote: 2012 Election Year Invitational Candidates Forum.

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) San Diego Branch will host a Non-Partisan opportunity to understand local, state and federal candidate positions and qualifications on Saturday, October 6, 2012 from 9:45 a.m. to 12 p.m.. The Candidates Forum will take place at the Mission Valley Library, 2123 Fenton Parkway (near Ikea), San Diego, CA 92108. Candidates for public office in the San Diego metropolitan area have been invited to describe issues and answer questions. Staff representatives will not present on behalf of their candidates. Only those individuals actually running for office areinvited to participate.

PCI and local agencies host Binational Forum on Obesity

In the United States, 68 percent of adults age 20 and older are overweight or obese, while 31.7% of the nations children and adolescents ages two to 19 are overweight or obese. Obesity contributes to five of the 10 leading causes of death in America, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, many cancers and stroke. As part of its effort to help combat the obesity epidemic in our community, PCI (Project Concern International) and its partners are sponsoring a community event to discuss binational and regional efforts in combating obesity. Nutrition and obesity-prevention experts from Mexico and the U.S. will give presentations focusing on binational projects and best practices in the California-Baja California border region. The summit will be held at the San Ysidro Health Center- Administrative Building at 1275 30th St., San Diego, CA 92154 on Thursday, September 27, 2012 from 10 a.m. 3 p.m.

USHCC, Hispanic Scholarship Fund y Wells Fargo se unen para apoyar el progreso en materia de educación universitaria

En el día de hoy, en la 33ava Convención Anual de United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce y Wells Fargo anunciaron un programa de becas por primera vez que reafirma un compromiso con la educación superior y el desarrollo empresarial. La subvención de $100,000 de Wells Fargo a Hispanic Scholarship Fund estará destinada a los estudiantes que deseen ir a la universidad que sean dependientes de miembros de USHCC o que hayan participado en BizFest, un programa intensivo de desarrollo empresarial para estudiantes hispanos de escuela secundaria. La inscripción al programa estará abierta desde el 19 de septiembre de 2012 hasta el 15 de diciembre de 2012.
