Herbert Siguenza from the REP’s “A Weekend With Pablo Picasso” Unveils Mario Torero’s “Eyes of Picasso” Mural in Barrio Logan On Saturday, March 27

Actor/artist Herbert Siguen-za will be taking a break from San Diego Repertory Theatre’s workshop production of A Weekend with Pablo Picasso to celebrate the unveiling of a historical mural in Barrio Logan. In 1973, artist Mario Torero inherited a black and white photo of Pablo Picasso from Maestro David Douglas Duncan. Torero stylized the image and brought it to life in full color by painting it on the wall of the Community Arts Building in the Gaslamp District. The building was later demolished to make room for Horton Plaza. In 2005, Torero and his group of artivistas began painting a series of murals on Logan Avenue from 16th Avenue to 26th Avenue. On Saturday, March 27, 2010, they will be unveiling a re-creation of the “Eyes of Picasso” mural on the side of “Lucky’s Market” in Barrio Logan, immediately following the Cesar Chavez Parade. To commemorate this event, Siguenza will be in full costume as legendary Pablo Picasso.
