Chula Vista Celebrates 14th Annual Festival Cinco de Mayo

    Get festive with your family, friends and neighbors and go for a day of fun at the Festival Cinco De Mayo. The free festival is returning for the fourteenth year to downtown Chula Vista on Sunday, May 8 … Mother’s Day!

    The community is welcome to join the festivities on Third Ave. from E to G Streets from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Enjoy a full day of family fun and activities.

Fiesta de Reyes dancers will perform on the stage within the plaza. Guests will get to enjoy the traditional Mexican, lively dance of Ballet Folklorico until 3 p.m.

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Historic Old Town

    Old Town San Diego is the place to be for authentic Mexican food and entertainment for San Diego’s Cinco de Mayo celebration. On May 5th, Fiesta de Reyes, El Fandango and The Cosmopolitan Hotel and Restaurant will be hosting special celebrations in honor of the Mexican holiday.

    Starting at 1 p.m., Fiesta de Reyes will have folklorico dancers performing on the stage within the plaza.  Guests will get to enjoy the traditional Mexican, lively dance of Ballet Folklorico until 3 p.m.  At 3:30 p.m., Old Town’s favorite mariachi group, Los Rios will perform some of their favorite Mexican songs.

    At 6:30 p.m., Los Rios will move over to Barra Barra Saloon to perform and Luis Max & The Blue Moon will take the Fiesta de Reyes stage at 7 p.m. They will entertain the crowd with hot Latin jazz as crowds enjoy margaritas and authentic Mexican dishes under the stars until 11:30 p.m.

Día del Niño – Children’s Day Celebrating the Child in All of Us

ESCONDIDO – San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum (SDCDM) in collaboration with the City of Escondido is pleased to present this year’s Día del Niño or Children’s Day on Saturday, April 30th, 2011 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Reaching well over 1000 people, the theme for this year is “Celebrating the Child in All of Us” highlighting that we are all kids at heart, regardless of culture and backgrounds. We all want the best for our families, and in these times of economic hardship, it is more important than ever to celebrate what binds us all together, children.

    The 2011 Día del Niño/Children’s Day is an effort to bring families from all over San Diego County together to celebrate the family, children and each other. This year SDCDM hosts over 20 organizations from all over San Diego County including KPBS, Barona Cultural Center and Museum and the California Center for the Arts, Escondido. Featured activities include Live Music, Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps Interblastive Foam Shower and Spa Experience, Aerial Revolution acrobatics displays and several others. Entertainment schedule is as follows:

Taller Gratuito Para Padres Sobre Disciplina y Clínica de Consulta Educativa

    El sábado 7 de mayo, el Programa PREP del Comité de Abogados para los Derechos Civiles, en conjunto con el Centro de Padres de Harold J. Ballard y el Distrito Escolar Unificado de San Diego, tendrán un taller gratuito para padres y una clínica sobre derechos y responsabilidades educativas con respecto a la disciplina escolar.  Este evento informará a los padres de sus derechos y los derechos de sus hijos/as y ofrecerá consejos sobre la mejor manera de garantizar que sus hijos/as estén recibiendo la educación que merecen. Además, los padres tendrán la oportunidad de conocer abogados voluntarios personalmente para discutir las necesidades educativas de sus hijos/as y generar un plan de acción para apoyar el éxito de sus niños.  El Programa PREP apoya el éxito de los alumnos para que sus padres aprendan cómo mejor abogar por sus hijos. El Programa PREP ofrece una oportunidad para aprender más acerca de sus derechos de educación y cómo desarrollar las destrezas necesarias para tomar decisiones efectivas para su hijo/a.
