Event to be Held 7 a.m. Friday, March 30 at Jacobs Center in San Diego
The life and legacy of Cesar Chavez will be celebrated on Friday, March 30th at 7 a.m. at the Jacobs Center, 404 Euclid Avenue, San Diego. In addition, the Las Mañanitas Breakfast will welcome and pay tribute to Dolores Huerta, a co-founder of the United Farm Workers Union.
“Dolores Huerta is a human and civil rights activist and is an icon for non-violence, sacrifice and service to others,” said Cesar Chavez Service Clubs Director Carlos LeGer-rette. He continued, “We are excited about honoring Ms. Huerta and having her share with our community the values that she and Cesar Chavez embodied as they made a positive difference in our society.”
The Las Mañanitas Breakfast is sponsored by the Cesar Chavez Service Clubs, of which there are 21 in San Diego. The clubs are based at schools and provide leadership and community service opportunities for more than 400 students.
The Chavistas, as the Club participants proudly call themselves, range from third grade through college age. Chavistas learn how to accomplish their goals by following the Ten Values of Cesar Chavez that include: service to others, sacrifice, non-violence, respect for life, celebratin community, determination, helping the needy, accepting of all people, knowledge and innovation.
Including the total time of the members, Club Coordinators, volunteers and staff, the Clubs will invest 15,000 hours in leadership development activities in 2012. The Las Mañanitas Breakfast serves as a fundraiser for the Cesar Chavez Service Clubs. Tickets to the event are $50 each or a table of ten can be purchased for $500 at www.Chavez Clubs.org. This year’s tribute to Dolores Huerta is expected to sell out.
