Glen Abbey Memorial Park to Hold Memorial Day Service
BONITA – Glen Abbey Memorial Park will hold a Memorial Day service at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30 at the cemetery, 3838 Bonita Road in Bonita, in partnership with Chula Vista Fleet Reserve Assn. Branch 61. The event is free and open to the public. Call 619-498-4600 for more information.
The service will bring community leaders and veterans organizations together to honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country. The service will begin with the presentation of the colors and will feature performances of the national anthem, “America the Beautiful” and “Taps” as well as a rifle salute, performances by the AIM San Diego West Mime Company and a fly-over by San Diego Salute with the Warbirds West Air Museum. South Bay Cruisers will have classic cars on display.
“The annual Memorial Day observance is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to the men and women who have served and who have sacrificed,” said Sean Bulthuis, manager of Glen Abbey, an honored Dignity Memorial provider. “We hope the families who join us for the service gain a deeper appreciation for the importance of honoring our military, whether that is those currently enlisted or veterans who served in the past.”

Greenwood Memorial Park will hold a Memorial Day service at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 30 at the cemetery, 4300 Imperial Avenue in San Diego, in partnership with the American Legion San Diego Post 6. The event is free and open to the public. Call 619-264-3131 for more information.
The service will bring community leaders and veterans organizations together to honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country. The service will feature guest speaker retired Lt. Col. Brian Josten, U.S. Marine Corps Combat Veteran and local educator, speaking on “American Youth and Their Future.”

Estación de radio en español encabeza campaña para honrar a las tropas en el Memorial Day
Con motivo del Memorial Day 2011 (Día de los Caídos en Combate, 2011), la estación de radio en español de más rápido crecimiento del sur de California, Exitos 93.9 FM (KXOS) encabeza una campaña para dar un reconocimiento a las tropas y veteranos latinos con una transmisión especial que durará todo el fin de semana del 27 al 30 de mayo.
Día de los Caídos en Combate (Memorial Day): Honor y Orgullo Latino, de Exitos, es una campaña en el aire, en línea y en los medios sociales, que alienta al público a participar y a homenajear a familiares y amigos que están en servicio, con dedicatorias en el aire, y publicando fotos de los seres queridos, con sus uniformes, en la página que la estación de radio tiene en Facebook: “Wall of Honor”.
La estación de radio arrancará la programación del fin de semana el viernes 27 que incluye invitados militares y entrevistas con los principales funcionarios locales elegidos.
