Community Notes:

First Annual South region Community Wellness Fair

On August 3, 2013, IMPACT South Bay, a community-based non-profit organization, in conjunction with Grace Tabernacle, a church headquartered in South San Diego, California, will host the First Annual South Region Community Wellness Fair. The SRC Wellness Fair will bring together approximately two dozen non-profit service providers that will bring an array of free or low-cost services to the South San Diego community.

The SRC Wellness Fair will also feature a workshop from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, in English and Spanish, on the changes to the immigration system currently proposed in Congress, presented by one of the leading public interest immigration law firms in San Diego County, Casa Cornelia Law Center. The event is open to the public, and admission to both the fair and the workshop is free. There will be entertainment for children—an astrojump, face painting, balloons, and popcorn—as well as raffles, music, and a surprise guest or two. The SRC Wellness Fair will take place at the IMPACT Center, 7015 Alamitos Avenue, San Diego, CA 92154, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

The purpose of the event is to promote wellness and empower residents of the South San Diego community by providing information and resources that will increase access to legal services, medical and mental health care, affordable housing, education, government benefits, and more. “We see so much need in our community,” said Daniel Ballon, Sr., Executive Director of IMPACT South Bay, “but San Diegans are lucky to have dozens of non-profit organizations that are willing to help. The SRC Wellness Fair is a chance for us to bridge the gap between the need we see in our community and the help that people out there are willing to provide, in a way that will strengthen our community and change people’s lives.”

IMPACT South Bay is a community-based non-profit organization that works to empower families and strengthen the community by providing free or low-cost educational workshops on topics ranging from relationship building skills, to communication, anger management training, and parenting classes.
