MiraCosta College Presents Film ‘Voices of Cuba

“Voices of Cuba” takes viewers from the rock-and-roll clubs of the Havana youth to the offices of high-ranking communist officials, and from the five star hotels to the decrepit slums. “Voices of Cuba” transports the audience to the Cuban people, who share their thoughts and feelings about their revolution, the effects of the U.S. embargo on their daily lives, and their hopes for their country in the twenty-first century.

The Film’s producer, Dr. Julian Nava, former U.S. ambassador to Mexico and the first Latino to attend Harvard University, will make a special guest appearance. Dr. Nava’s books will also be available for purchase at the event. Mira-Costa College President Dr. Francisco Rodriguez will be on hand to introduce Dr. Nava.

Doors will open at 5 p.m. The film runs approximately 54 minutes.

Affordable Legal Services Available Through TJSL’s Solo Practice Center

Center is Helping Citizens with Low Cost Representation

Thomas Jefferson School of Law’s new Center for Solo Practitioners is providing affordable legal services to San Diego citizens from its downtown San Diego offices at 7th Avenue and Broadway.

Since it opened last November, the center has so far helped dozens of clients with their cases –many of whom didn’t think they could afford a lawyer.

The Center is an incubator program for TJSL alumni to gain the skills and experience they need to succeed in solo practice and to provide low-cost legal representation to people who are traditionally cut off from legal services and denied access to justice because it is too expensive.

The nine lawyers in residence at the center are using their TJSL education and training to provide high-quality legal services in a variety of practice areas, including family law, consumer law, employment law, estates and trusts, small-business advising, immigration law, landlord tenant law, personal injury, real property law and criminal law.

Citizens who are interested in consulting with one of the solo practitioners can call: 619-550-4879.

Rep. Juan Vargas, Joined by Rep. Luis Gutierrez, to Host a Landmark Immigration Reform Testimonial Event

Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-51) will host a non-denominational testimonial event that will bring to light the desperate need for immigration reform. Rep. Vargas will be joined by Rep. Luis Gutierrez (IL-04), Chair of the Immigration Task Force of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and longtime champion and advocate for comprehensive immigration reform. The event will be on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at One in Christ Church located at 635 E. 7th St., National City, CA.

“It is an honor to be able to fight for our immigrant families alongside Rep. Gutierrez,” said Rep. Vargas. “My hope is that this event will clearly highlight the incredible need for immigration reform and will open the eyes and hearts of our colleagues in Congress. The personal stories we will hear will show that our broken immigration system indiscriminately rips apart families and destroys lives.”
