Community Notes:

Public Invited to Help Redesign the San Ysidro Intermodal Transportation Center

WHEN: Wednesday, January 9, 2013at 6 p.m.
WHERE: Willow Elementary School Multipurpose Room, 226 Willow Road, San Ysidro, CA 92173
WHAT: The first of four public meetings to obtain community input on the potential redesign of the San Ysidro Intermodal Transportation Center (SYITC) will be held in partnership with the San Ysidro Community Plan Update Advisory Committee.

The SYITC currently provides bus and Trolley service for users from both sides of the international border with Mexico. SANDAG and the City of San Diego — along with Caltrans, the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS), and community members — are working to make the SYITC a landmark destination. Community input is essential to ensuring the success of the SYITC redesign study. Attendees at this meeting — and a series of additional meetings to be held throughout 2013 — will learn about the potential public and private uses at the center, in addition to transit services. Input gathered from transit users, as well as area businesses and residents during the study period, will be reflected in the alternatives developed to improve mobility and provide economic benefits to the San Ysidro community.

The San Ysidro Community Plan Update is starting up again in 2013

Your participation is more important than ever! Join us!

During these past few months progress has been made on the San Ysidro Community Plan Update and the City now has much to share! Please join us at our upcoming San Ysidro Community Plan Update Advisory Committee meeting on Wednesday, January 9th at Willow School beginning at 6:00 pm.

The meeting will cover the Pedestrian Master Plan, a guide that will help the City enhance neighborhood quality and mobility options, such as the improvement of unsafe crosswalks, incomplete/obstructed sidewalks, and poor walkability. Also, the meeting will kick-off the San Ysidro Intermodal Transportation Center Traffic and Economic Feasibility Study, which will determine the possibility for various public/private uses and services, including improved public transit, lodging, retail/office-uses and public parking. Voicing your input and priorities about your community will help guide the planning and implementation efforts of pedestrian improvement projects in San Ysidro.

In addition, Mayor Bob Filner has expressed great interest in the San Ysidro Community Plan Update and is scheduled to attend this meeting.
