Imperial Beach Library Launches Free Citizenship Classes

The Imperial Beach Library, 810 Imperial Beach Blvd, is launching free Citizenship Classes taking place every Saturday from 10 – 11:30 a.m. The classes are conducted in English and all materials are provided free of charge. Registration is not required.

The Citizenship Classes include help filling out the N-400 application, practicing the 100 civics questions, and everything attendees need to know to pass their citizenship interview. In addition, the classes assist with English reading, writing, and conversation skills. San Diego County Library branches held 228 Citizenship Class sessions last year, with 1,724 learners in attendance. A video featuring SDCL’s Citizenship Classes can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/countysandiego#p/a/u/0/ae7oVXn6YYQ.

“I attended the library’s classes for almost a year and passed a test that included answering questions on American history and civics along with reading and writing,” said Rosalba Trevizo (pictured), who became a citizen through classes offered at the Vista Branch. “My confidence in myself has never been higher.”

Preservation Action Alert: Plaza de Panama Project hearings begin on May 3
The Balboa Park Committee
May 3, 2012 at 6pm

Presenting the proposed Plaza de Panama Jacobs/Sanders project

After nearly two years of battling this destructive, poorly designed, environmentally, culturally, and historically damaging redevelopment and privatization of Balboa Park project it will now move forward to a series of public hearings that will decide the fate of Balboa Park. These important meetings begin with the Balboa Park Committee on Thursday, May 3 at 6pm at the Balboa Park Club, 2144 Pan America Road West.

We need your help to make sure the public’s voice continues to be heard. A strong showing of public support will make it harder for boards, commissions, and council to bow to private party wishes to go against the public’s needs, and to ignore the wishes and desires of the public to protect our park. Please plan to be at this first meeting to speak.
The best way to keep most current is to join the facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/PlazaDePanama2015
