Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Breakfast Hosts Inspirational Speakers

$3,300 in scholarships to be awarded

 What: Inspirational speakers and homemade, Louisiana-style chicken and waffles headline this year’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Breakfast. US Navy Captain Dr. Samuel Young, and Dr. Willie Blair, president of the Camp Lockett Foundation dedicated to preserving the Buffalo Soldiers legacy, will share how Dr. Martin Luther King’s values still influence our communities.

 The morning event, which is presented by the college’s African American Alliance, also includes the distribution of $3,300 in scholarships to five students. Portions of the winning essays will be read during the program. Southwestern College’s world-renown choir will perform and Ursula Morris-Williams, the college’s Purchasing, Contracting and Leasing Coordinator, will be cooking the chicken and waffles. Underwriting a portion of the event is the Southwestern College Associated Student Organization.

When: Friday, Jan. 18, 7-9 a.m.
