San Diego Superior Court Business Offices Closed on Fridays

If you are hoping to take care of a traffic ticket, see a Small Claims Legal Advisor or handle other court matters on Friday afternoon, it is best if you make different plans. Starting this week, all San Diego Superior Court business offices will be closed at noon on Fridays. The Friday business office closures will be in effect for the near future. The noon closure is the first in a series of service cuts enacted in order to meet the historic funding reductions placed on the court earlier this year by the legislature.

While courtrooms will be open and continue working until the end of the business day, all clerks’ business offices located at all San Diego Superior Court facilities will be closed to the public. The closures will also extend to the Small Claims Legal Advisor and the Family Law Facili-tator’s Office programs.

These partial closure days are not court holidays, so statutory deadlines will not be extended. However, drop boxes are currently provided outside clerical offices for filing papers or submitting payments, pursuant to California Rules of Court, rule 2.210.

Emergency court matters such as Temporary Restraining Orders will continue to be handled until end of the business day on Fridays.

The noon closures are designed to give the court’s reduced staff time to catch up on backlogs and process court filings.

The public can still handle many court matters (pay a traffic fine, get a traffic court extension) on the court’s website: http://www.sdcourt.ca.gov.
