AIA San Diego to Host Mayoral Candidates Forum on October 15

The American Institute of Architects, San Diego Chapter (AIASD) is hosting a Mayoral Candidates Forum, Monday, October 15, beginning at six o’clock in the evening, at the Museum of Photographic Arts, 1649 El Prado, San Diego.
Republican City Councilman Carl DeMaio and Democratic Congressman Bob Filner will square off to debate public policy issues that directly affect the livability, health and safety of the City of San Diego.

Moderated by KPBS Host and Reporter Tom Fudge, the debate will open with one preset question. After a series of additional topical questions, members of the audience and the news media will be given an opportunity to pose questions to the candidates.

Bob Filner & Carl DeMaio to face-off at Grass Roots Back Yard Mayoral Candidates Round Table

Who: Bob Filner, Carl De-Maio, Broadway Heights Community Council, San Diego Future For Tomorrow Collaborative, United African America Ministerial Action Council, East Village Community Development Corporation, and CSA San Diego County.

Why: A community engagement Mayoral Round Table, to understand the candidates’ positions, on sustainable living through natural resources, public safety, jobs, affordable housing, neighborhood development project, street repairs, neighborhood policing, water rates, city commissions, CIP projects and youth programs. So when we go to the poles to vote we will be more informed how to vote.

Youth Opportunities for a $30,000 and $10,000 Savings Bond

The Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary sponsors two youth programs with both deadlines being November 1, 2012. The first is the “Voice of Democracy” with the theme “Is Our Constitution Still Relevant.” This is a national patriotic speech competition open to 9-12th grade students. To enter a student records a 3-5 minute speech based on the theme. The Grand Prize is a $30,000 scholarship with other prizes along the way.

The second is “Patriots Pen” with the theme “What I Would Tell America’s Founding Fathers.” This is a 300-400 word patriotic essay open to 6-8th grade students. The Grand Prize is a $10,000 Savings Bond, also with other prizes along the way.
