Day Camp During School Fall Break Costs Only $5

    The Chula Vista Recreation Department will be hosting a week long, low-cost camp at Harborside Park, 670 Oxford Street during the Chula Vista public schools fall break. The camp, with a fee of only $5, will be held Monday-Friday, October 3-7, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. In an effort to keep youth ages 6-12 years, physically engaged in their community during their fall school break, the cost of the camp is primarily supported through the Chula Vista Police Activities League (PAL-Chula Vista).

    We are grateful to have a partnership with PAL,Chula Vista. They have always been strong advocates for youth in need of recreational opportunities, said Recreation Director Buck Martin. Two registration sessions are offered: Saturday, September 24 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Haborside Park, 670 Oxford, and on Tuesday, September 27 from 2:30-9 p.m. at  Parkway Community Center, 373 Park Way.

Wine, Food and Brew Festival Gets Down to Business

San Marcos – On Saturday, September 24 from 4 to 7 p.m., the College of Business Administration (CoBA) at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) will host its second annual Wine, Food and Brew Festival, welcoming supporters and community members to sample gourmet cuisine and beverages in an unforgettable, open-air gathering.

    More than 30 area-wineries, breweries and restaurants will offer generous and tantalizing tastes of fine wine, artisan beers and savory cuisine. The 21-and-up annual event is held on the university’s Markstein Plaza, benefiting student programming and academic development in CoBA. Tickets are $53.49 for general admission and $37.74 for Cal State San Marcos alumni.

5th Annual ¡Vive tu Vida! Get Up! Get Moving! Health Fair  

    Family Health Centers of San Diego will present the 5th Annual ¡Vive tu Vida! Get Up! Get Moving! Health Fair Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in San Diego’s Chicano Park.

    This is a FREE family event to promote physical, healthy, and active lifestyles in the Latino community. Free health screenings (diabetes, heart disease, blood pressure, kidney screenings, dental and vision), health education and fun physical activities like Zumba, aerobics and tennis will be available to participants.

South County Economic Development Council to Host 21st Annual Economic Summit Sept. 30

    Join South County EDC and more than 400 business and community leaders as well as public officials at the 21st Annual Economic Summit on Sept. 30 at the San Diego Convention Center from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    New to the Summit will be an economic outlook panel comprised of Dr. Alan Gin, associate professor of economics at the University of San Diego; Rafael Pastor, CEO and chairman of Vistage International, Inc; and Mark Cafferty, CEO and president of San Diego Workforce Partnership.

    California State Treasurer Bill Lockyer and NBA Hall of Fame recipient Bill Walton are the event’s keynote speakers.

    Lockyer’s public service career has spanned more than three decades, serving for five years as California’s Attorney General and 25 years in the state legislature. He will address the statewide economic climate and its issues as well as give a presentation on economic indicators and what is to be expected in the next 12 to 24 months.

    Walton, a native San Diegan who was a member of two NCAA championship teams, is currently the executive chairman of Connect SD Sport Innovators, a nonprofit trade organization that offers mentoring, education and capital funding opportunities for start-up companies. He will offer insight into the importance of giving back to the community.

    Awards will be presented to local businesses and community leaders who made a difference in 2010 in the areas of regional development and forging binational relationships in order to achieve economic progress.
