Relay for Life Automobile and Bike Show in Old Town April 3
Proceeds go to American Cancer Society
Fiesta de Reyes and Old Town San Diego State Historic Park are hosting an automobile and bike show with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life campaign. Set for Sunday, April 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the state park’s central plaza, the show will feature exotic and low-rider cars and custom show bikes from a variety of clubs throughout Southern California and Baja.
“Now in its second year, this exclusive car and bike show will once again transform the historic streets of Old Town,” said Toni Royal, volunteer with the Relay for Life Chula Vista chapter. “The event will feature over 85 classic automobiles and prominent motorcycles from all over the area. With such an amazing line-up, attendees will be astonished by all the creativity and excitement that afternoon.”
Bonita-Sunnyside Library to Host Healthcare Job Fair
`The Bonita-Sunnyside branch of the San Diego County Library and the South County Career Center will hold a job fair focused on employment opportunities in health-care. The job fair will take place on Tuesday, April 5 at the Bonita-Sunnyside Library, 4375 Bonita Rd, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is a great opportunity to explore careers in healthcare and talk directly to employers.
More than fifteen employers will be onsite, representing dozens of occupations in the medical field. Confirmed participants include Scripps-Mercy Hospital, University of California – San Diego, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and American Medical Response. In addition, attendees will be able to have their resumes reviewed on the spot by Career Center staff. People considering a career change, those entering the workforce, and current health-care workers are encouraged to attend. Educational institutions such as Southwestern Community College and San Diego State University will be present to discuss the training required to make career transitions.
“This is an excellent way for people to assess the potential for careers in the fast-growing health care field,” says Hildie Kraus, Branch Manager. “And the resume review is a very practical aspect of the fair as well.”

Project New Village will host its 11th Annual Cesar E. Chavez Community Tribute in Southeastern San Diego on Saturday, April 2, 2011, 12 noon – 4:00pm at ECC. This year we will honor Señor Chavez’s legacy of social justice and farming by highlighting the “Good Food Revolution”; a national / international effort to promote urban farming among diverse groups in the inner city to address food injustice. Mr. Will Allen, CEO for Growing Power is the titular leader of this movement.
This is a free fun event for all family members. The goal is to connect Southeastern San Diego to the local and global food movement. We need volunteers and are still looking for wholesome entertainment.
MEDIA ARTS Center San Diego Presents Youth Media and Tech Camp for 9 to 14 Year Olds on Spring Break
MEDIA ARTS Center San Diego once again brings back its’ popular Youth & Technology Media Camps for the upcoming Spring Break.
Camps will run daily from 8:30a.m. to 3:30p.m. April 4 -8, April 11 – 15, and April 18 – 22. Media Arts Instructors will teach 9-14 year olds in stop-motion animation, video editing, blogging and all kinds of digital media art making! At the end of each sessions there is a family screening.
“We’re excited to once again offer our popular youth media camps to students who will be off from school this upcoming Spring Break,” states MACSD Lab Manager Morgan Sully. “The camps are a great learning environment for youth who might be interested in making their own movies, learning animation, and/or have an interest in computers.”
MACSD Youth & Technology Media Camps are $180 per youth for one full week or $160 per youth for MACSD members. Scholarships are also available for youth who qualify.
