Exhibit Honoring Mexico’s 200th Year of Independence at Escondido Children’s Museum

Escondido Children’s Museum (ECM) has launch-ed a new, interactive exhibit featuring artwork created by children all over the world illustrating México’s history.

The artwork featured at ECM is the result of  “Éste es Mi México– “This is My Mexico,” a drawing contest organized every year by Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs through  the Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IME, for its initials in Spanish),  and promoted locally by the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego.

The theme of this year’s exhibit is the celebration of the Bicentennial of Mexico’s Independence and the Centennial of the Mexican Revolution.

Through the exhibit, visitors can view and trace the drawings of children from other cultures, and create their own drawings that illustrate their culture. The visitors’ drawings are displayed at the museum. The exhibit also features a timeline of Mexican history. A portion of the art collection is on display at the Escondido Library.

“The ‘Éste es Mi México – This is My Mexico’ drawing contest stimulates the interest for Mexico and Mexican culture among youngsters around the world. We are very pleased that in the year that we celebrate the Bicentennial of our independence we have an opportunity to showcase at the Escondido Children’s Museum these wonderful works of art for the San Diego audience”, said Remedios Gómez Arnau, Consul General of Mexico in San Diego.

Escondido Children’s Museum is located in the California Center for the Arts at Grape Day Park. Admission is $5 per person.
