South County Economic Development Council Launches Visioning Effort for Region’s Future

Outcomes from the Visioning Project will be used to develop a five year economic plan for the South Bay
The South County Economic Development Council (South County EDC) is launching its comprehensive economic development visioning effort to develop a five-year strategic plan for the region. The visioning effort seeks public input from South Bay residents and business members to gauge which topics the community believes to be most vital for the region’s future development.

“Economic development and investment is vital to our region,” said Councilmember David Alvarez, who is serving on the Visioning Oversight Committee. “The South County EDC Visioning Project is essential for providing a blueprint for planning for future growth and development and ensuring economic prosperity for South Bay.”

“The Visioning Project is essential to connecting the projects in South County to ensure we capture every economic opportunity,” added Scott Parker, South County EDC Board Chair. South County EDC’s goal is to survey 4,000 members of the South Bay community. Questions focus on the types of businesses, activities and industries residents want to focus on to attract growth to the region; comparing the importance of issues such as housing, public transportation, education and community partnerships; and measuring the impact felt by certain economic factors including border wait times. There will also be open-ended questions to allot for further participant feedback.

Surveying efforts will be available online and in-person. Community groups, educational organizations, home-owners associations and business clusters that are interested in taking the survey can contact South County EDC to schedule a surveying time.

The visioning effort for South County will be tied to the implementation of Our Greater San Diego Vision. Funding was provided by the San Diego Foundation, County of San Diego, the City of San Diego and South County EDC members.
