Spooky Old Town Plays and Performances

—Four Types of Performances Will Scare and Delight in Old Town This October—

The Halloween-themed plays and performances will add a spooky atmosphere in Old Town this October.

Old Town San Diego will be the host to a variety of spooky plays and performances to get visitors in the Halloween spirit throughout the month of October.

The first type of performance is one of the supernatural. Hosted by the Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, “Séance at the Seeley Stable. Is Anybody There?” will take place on October 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, 30, and 31 at 6 and 7:30 p.m. Visitors will be present at a “séance” led by Madam Sto-lichnaya as she attempts to summon “real live” ghosts who will tell their stories in a fun and eerie way. During this performance, audience members will hear scary, funny, and tragic stories of people who once lived in early San Diego during the 1800s. Adults are $10 per ticket and children 12 to 18: $5.00. Tickets can be purchased in person in the state park at the Robinson-Rose Information Center.

The second type of bloodcurdling performance will come straight from the history books. Write Out Loud will present “Quoth the Raven” at the Old Town Theatre on Saturday afternoon, October 16 at 12:30 p.m. and on Monday evening, October 18, at 7 p.m. Quoth the Raven will feature stories and poems of mystery, fantasy and delusion brought chillingly to life by professional actors. Authors include Edgar Allan Poe, Ray Bradbury, Lafcadio Hearn, H.P. Lovecraft and Jerome K. Jerome. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $13 for students, seniors and active military.    The third unearthly performance will take the audience back in time to Oct. 30, 1938, when millions of radio listeners were shocked when news alerts announced the arrival of Martians forging a ferocious and seemingly unstoppable attack on Earth. Presented by Cygnet Theater Company, War of the Worlds is a staged radio play that re-enacts when Martians invaded the earth. The War of the Worlds performance is on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Old Town Theatre. Tickets are $10 for all ages. For more information visit, www.cygnettheatre.com or call (619) 337-1525.

The haunting performances will cumulate with a free live storytelling of Old Town’s Legend of Sleepy Hollow at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28 and at 8 p.m. on Halloween night, Sunday, Oct. 31.
