<p> Children who participate in Head Start programs are significantly better prepared to start school, according to a new study conducted by Child Care Results, a firm specializing in child development data analysis. The finding was released on the heels of a proposed federal budget that would cut these benefits to over 200,000 children nationally – approximately 27,000 children in California.</p>

<p> Are you clued in to the current slashing and burning going on in Washington, DC? The new Congress is trying to settle on a federal budget that should have been voted on last fall. President Obama unveiled his idea for the next budget on Monday. How do you think they are setting priorities? After all, our federal budget shows what we value, doesn’t it? What we care about as a country? So what does our president’s budget care about?</p>

<p> In the current debate over immigration there is near unanimous agreement that our system is broken. With Congress currently split by party, one of the shrillest arguments before the American people is over securing our southern border before proceeding with any legislative reform on immigration.</p>
<p> Adding to this debate is Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), who recently wrote an editorial on immigration reform which perpetuates the two troubling notions.</p>

<p> Too many women and families cannot afford the health care they need and deserve. Prices are rising even as the economy continues to struggle, and women continue to earn less than men. To make matters worse, new House leadership and Rep. Mike Pence are aggressively pushing a dangerous agenda to take health care away from women.</p>

<p> In times of economic discontent, immigrants have often faced a backlash. But immigrants have been crucial to our country since its founding and often do work that no one else would.</p>
<p> Still, the push against immigrants is gaining strength.</p>
