TEZOZOMOC SPEAKS

We’re finally # 1! Latinos are now considered the most discriminated group in the United States. So says an AP-Univisión-GfK poll that examined bigotry in America. Sixty-one percent of poll participants state that Latinos face significant discrimination, followed by blacks and women (52 and 50 percent, respectively). Hijole, they needed a poll to figure that out????

Ruben Navarrette, the UT columnist and editor, got the axe last week! Qué lástima, we need more Hispanic voices from all points of views, not fewer. We didn’t always agree with his perspective but we respected his point of view. There are many Hispanic perspectives, now just one less outlet. The community is not better for this. New owners of the U-T obviously unaware that the majority population in SD County in the near future will be Hispanic.

If Navarrette ever needs an outlet in San Diego there is always La Prensa, we don’t pay as well…. Navarrette will be fine. He is a syndicated columnist and sooner than later will end up at another news organization.

Sandy Lopez of the San Ysidro School Board handed in her resignation letter on June 14 citing “personal and family responsabilities.” School Board is set to appoint someone to fill out her term.

Lita David, long time San Ysidro educator and the first Filipina teacher in San Ysidro and first Filipina to serve on the Sweetwater board, is retiring at the young age of 80. We wish her well in her retirement.

Hispanic political pundits are in disbelief over the 4th place showing of Humberto Peraza in Chula City council race. All are scratching their head wondering what happened. They all jumped on the bandwagon only to find out later it had a flat tire….

It looks like we can finally put to rest the Inzunza dynastyNick Inzunza came in a distant 4th in San Diego council race… The Inzunza name didn’t carry the day. Of course it would have help if they had a better candidate running, someone who knew the issues of the community!

Juan Vargas continues to hang around, as of 3:32pm Thursday he was only 105 votes behind Salas!!! At one point Salas was about 1000 votes ahead. This one is too close for comfort.

El Jefe, el editor de La Prensa, met with ten reporters from the Ukraine this past week. El editor had a lively two hour discussion about immigration, minority rights, Hispanics in general and of course about the media.

Tezzy is saddened by the death of long time compañero Richard Resendez. After a long life, he passed away this past weekend. Resendez past chairman of the San Diego American G.I. Forum will be missed. Rest in Peace.

In the Primary Meg Whittman didn’t need the Hispanic vote… but in the General Election the Hispanic vote es muy importante and on cue she is trying to change her image from anti-Hispanic to one of a friend of Hispanics with a barrage of Hispanic themed commercials. That is okay, the Hispanic media need the greenbacks and she has a lot of them to spend, so bring it on…

Hispanics got the City of Chula Vista to go along in opposing Arizona’s SB 1070, that was easy. Now that being done what about National City??? Not only have NC officials keep quiet on the subject but they are actually negotiating with an Arizona company to install red light system to catch law breakers, you know trying to beat a red light… National City is 70% Hispanic and it is a slap in the face to the Hispanic community that the city is negotitating with an Arizona company while the state political structure oppresses and profiles Hispanics?

What say you, the Hispanic leadership in National City City Councilperson Rosalie Zarate, Councilperson Alejandra Sotelo-Solis, Chief of Police Adolfo Gonzales, Port Commissioner Robert “Dukie” Valderrama, City Manager Chris Zapata  all cool with idea that NC does not support the boycott against Arizona? Can you guys look your Hispanic brothers and sisters in the face and say it is all right to discriminate, profile, and deny human rights in Arizona????
