Youth Action no Longer Deferred

America, home of the free and the land of opportunity- only if you’re a legal citizen, of course. Working with an array of students from different backgrounds, we have seen our fair share of issues. However, one issue continues to go unspoken: undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S as children.

In 2008, San Diego County had the third largest population of undocumented immigrants in California. An estimated population of about 200,000, many immigrants made the trip across the border before well before their 18th birthday, making the American Dream their only way of life.

Unfortunately, for most kids in this situation, their dream will be cut short. Immigrants brought here as children face many issues. Unable to find work due citizenship requirements, many are forced into dangerous odd jobs to make ends meet.

UntitledNevertheless, thanks to the deferred action for childhood arrivals imitative, for others, there is light at the end of the tunnel. If you:

1. Were under the age of 31 as of June 15, 2012;
2. Came to the United States before reaching your 16th birthday;
3. Have continuously resided in the United States since June 15, 2007, up to the present time;
4. Were physically present in the United States on June 15, 2012, and at the time of making your request for consideration of deferred action with USCIS;
5. Entered without inspection before June 15, 2012, or your lawful immigration status expired as of June 15, 2012;
6. Are currently in school, have graduated or obtained a certificate of completion from high school, have obtained a general education development (GED) certificate, or are an honorably discharged veteran of the Coast Guard or Armed Forces of the United States; and
