Oceanside Looking for Residents to Serve on the New El Corazon Commission

The City Clerk is accepting applications from City residents for appointment to the new El Corazon Commission to help guide the future development of this parkland located in the heart of the City. The deadline for submittals has been extended to January 29, 2010.

This is an exciting opportunity for citizens to consider options and make recommendations to City staff, the Planning Commission and the City Council on the implementation of the El Corazon Specific Plan.

<p>Now, more than ever, one of the best ways to keep your preteen healthy is with a visit to the doctor at 11-12 years of age. Why? Well, one important reason is to make sure he or she is up to date on immunizations to protect against serious diseases like pertussis (whooping cough) and H1N1 influenza.</p>

 The American Chemical Society (ACS) Scholars Program is now accepting applications from African-American, Hispanic/Latino and American Indian students who are pursuing or intend to pursue degrees in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical technology or related majors.

 Renewable awards of up to $5,000 per year are given to qualified high school seniors, community college students and college freshmen, sophomores or juniors.

 Each year at the State of the City meeting, the Escondido City Council recognizes individuals who have improved the quality of life in the community through volunteer service. Nominations now are being solicited for these awards.
