This past week marked a grisly milestone in Afghanistan: The 2,000th U.S. service member has now died there.
And the pace of those deaths has increased, with Obama’s surge bringing about a surge of U.S. deaths. As the New York Times notes, it took about nine years of war to claim the first 1,000 U.S. soldiers and Marines. And it took just a little more than two years to slay the second thousand.

<p>Iconic images are those that stand the test of time and become engraved in our psyche. They freeze a moment and tell a story. They create truths and inform our memories. For instance, the intense human rights struggle in Arizona has managed to produce several powerful iconic images for our times.</p>

<p>Finalmente la administración del presidente Barack Obama decidió arriesgar el pellejo por los hispanos con la acción ejecutiva que suspende las deportaciones de jóvenes soñadores por dos años, dando la posibilidad a los muchachos de renovar el permiso de permanencia en el país.</p>
