<p><strong> </strong> Memorial Day is a time to celebrate and remember the servicemen and women who sacrificed their lives to defend our values. As we reflect on their acts of sacrifice and heroism, we are also reminded of what these brave Americans experience while deployed overseas fighting for our freedom.</p>

<p> During election years, we hear candidates complain a lot about wasteful government programs. But a recent study by the nonprofit Guttmacher Institute provides startling news about one California program that has solved 52% of a social problem in just 13 years, and saved the state billions of dollars in the process.</p>

<p><strong> I work at a high school where there is a significant number of our students without papers. Two students that I had worked with for four years graduated last June (one from Mexico, the other from Paraguay), and they are now attending community college. They have both read your books.</strong></p>

<p> A shoot out with police officers and military personnel resulted in the arrest of eleven kidnappers specializing in attacking immigrants who would ask for over two thousand dollars of family member in exchange for their release.</p>
<p> This dangerous group was lead by an ex-Military officer who confessed to having perpetrated over a hundred group kidnappings in the mountainous region of Tecate.</p>
