<p>Gavin Newsom survived a recall election that at first seemed a possible threat to his political future but eventually failed to garner enough support to oust the state’s 40th Governor. </p>

<p>Late on election night, with potentially more than a million absentee ballots still left to be counted statewide, nearly 64% of the votes counted were for NO on the recall, with a margin of over 2.5 million between the NO and YES votes. More than 5.84 million voters chose NO on the recall.</p>

<p>The leader of the City of San Diego’s largest employee union, responsible for protecting City employees’ best interests, remains silent even after documents prove City officials knowingly put hundreds of his members at risk of asbestos exposure and fire danger in the 101 Ash Street building.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A Chula Vista councilman currently under investigation for alleged campaign finance violations ran afoul of state law during a City Council on Tuesday by improperly abstaining from voting on a developer’s project amendments after the developer gave McCann a $10,000 contribution last December.</p>

<p>A local taxpayer advocacy group won its case and nearly $90,000 in legal fees against the City of San Diego related to the City Attorney’s failed attempt to amend state laws to make it more difficult for the public and media to access public records.</p>
