<p>The storms and near-freezing temperatures that hit San Diego have caused a spike in the number of homeless people becoming ill. The lack of sufficient shelters and permanent housing for the thousands of people living in San Diego streets make this a more urgent crisis.<br>
This past Wednesday, January 25, the City of San Diego hosted its 11th Homeless Connect event, which provides homeless people everything from basic services such as haircuts and warm clothing to specialized medical care and eyeglasses.<br>

<p>It was a somber day for Mexicans on Wednesday when U.S. President Donald J. Trump, through executive orders, began a crackdown on immigration with a 2,000-mile border wall and threats to pull federal grant money for sanctuary cities in the country.<br>
But across the U.S. border, Tijuana business leaders were not too rattled by the news, which was based on a campaign promise many Mexican officials brushed off as a mere threat from an all talk, no action candidate.<br>

<p>For some time now, Ed Lopez has slowly been transforming his everyday life into a more energy efficient one. He has installed a solar panel system at his Paradise Hills home, he uses energy-saving light bulbs, and one of the two cars his family owns is an electric vehicle.<br>

<p>Local business leaders joined San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer to announce the creation of a new district where commercial buildings pledge to create more sustainable workspaces.</p>
<p>San Diego will be the latest city to become a 2030 District – an urban area where the private sector and local building industry leaders commit to sustainability and economic growth. The goal is to have a 50 percent reduction in energy, water and transportation emissions in participating buildings by 2030.</p>
