$22,500 will be awarded to graduating  high school seniors
Deadline to apply April 30

Hispanic high school seniors nationwide are invited to apply for the NCLR – Best Buy Emerging Latino Leaders Scholarship. $22,500 will be awarded to graduating Hispanic seniors who demonstrate excellence in community and school.

The program will award three scholarships. One grand prize winner will receive a one-time payment of $15,000. One winner will  receive a one-time payment of $5,000. One winner will receive a one-time payment of $2,500.

Northwest Civic Association will present a Mayoral Candidate Forum on Monday April 12th at 6 p.m. at the Chula Vista Civic Center Library Auditorium (4th Ave. & F St.).  Candidates committed to attend are Steve Castañeda, Cheryl Cox, and Jorge Dom-inguez. In June 2010 Chula Vista voters will have the opportunity to vote for the city’s Mayor. Come meet the candidates. The event is free & everyone is welcome. <p>My father worked 90 days at the last job of his life so he could get health insurance. In the early part of those 90 days, doctors found cancer that was eating him up fast. He needed rest and recovery, but the 90-day mark qualified him for health insurance. He needed coverage to live — and to live financially — because medical costs would have killed him, before the cancer did.</p>

<p>San Bernardino City Unified School District has 11 schools rated among the worst 5 percent in the state. How these so-called failing schools will be treated under America’s new education blueprint sent to Congress on Monday (March 22) illustrates the challenges of boosting student achievement in an era of teacher layoffs, and deep budget cuts.</p>

The Easter holiday is about re-birth and new beginnings. It is the start of the spring season, ladies dressed in flowery fashions, and the Easter egg. For the Christian community it is about the Resurrection of Christ.

This year, after several tough economic years, which has taken a toll on everyone, this Easter we do not have to celebrate the holiday with such a heavy burden and can sense the re-birth of our country as it is finally coming back from the recession that has gripped our homeland.
