Middle school instructor to be honored July 6 for his impact in the area of children’s education

The San Diego Padres announced the recipient of the second Hispanic Heritage Comunidad Award. Armando Cataño, a teacher at Monroe Clark Middle School in City Heights, has been selected by members of the Padres’ Hispanic Community Leadership Council (HCLC) for his dedication to improving the lives of youth, specifically in the area of education. He will be honored before Friday’s 7:05 p.m. game vs. the Cincinnati Reds.

<p>It’s the Microenterprise Family Childcare, a free professional training program in Spanish that helps Latinas start their own childcare business in their own homes while getting their state license.</p>

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum presents “A Conversation with Anthony Acevedo” on Sunday, July 15 at 7 p.m. at Congregation Beth El in La Jolla, CA. Kyra Schuster, Curator at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, will lead a discussion with Anthony Acevedo regarding his unusual experience as a prisoner of war and remarkable donation to the Museum’s collection including his U.S. Army medic armband and wartime diary.

San Ysidro Health Center has opened Valencia Park Community Resource Center to provide the southeastern San Diego community with health and wellness information and referral, social support services and eligibility and insurance enrollment information. The resource center, located on the St. Stephen’s Cathedral campus, 5825 Imperial Ave., San Diego 92114 is open to the public Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2-6 pm. All services are at no cost.
